City Groups

What are City Groups?

City Groups are community groups where people from the church get together weekly to share life and support one another. Being a part of a community of people is a central theme of the church’s mission. The Church was never meant to live in an independent way, but rather to be interdependent and connected. City Groups are essential to being connected at Destiny City Church. Whether you are new at DCC or have been around for awhile, City Groups are the place to be! Life happens, and we are to share the good and bad times and experience the life of Jesus in real, tangible ways through each other. We are united by the common thread that we are all created in the image of God and through His creation, us, He builds and shapes us. Unfortunately, most of us have never experienced this kind of community, and therefore the idea of hanging out with people you don’t really know may seem unpleasant. We are confident that if you give it a chance you will be blessed and will also find yourself blessing others! Just the way it ought to be.

How Do I Join?

There are several ways to find out where your City Group meets and when. Ask anyone at our weekend service for information, or contact Shanna Perez at 253-627-5503 or sperez@destinycitychurch.org.

Each district is numbered and clearly marked by a map so it is easy to see where you meet. Districts will have several groups going at different times so you can pick the one that best suits your schedule and needs. Location, what day and what time, as well as if kids are included or not, will be clearly stated so you know before you go!

Why are there City Group Districts?

Destiny City Church is an Elder-led church which means the people that attend DCC are to be cared for and disciple through the leadership of the Elders. Each City Group district and the groups in that district, are overseen by an Elder of the church. The goal is to care for those who call DCC their home church in real ways.

We also believe strongly that we are called to connect and grow in the particular community in which we live. We encourage you to be a part of a City Group in your district, and build relationships with those that live around you. We discourage people from driving to a City Group in another district, because it defeats our mission to grow and connect where we live. Currently, our weekend service is on Saturday evening. This is the time we all come together and celebrate the Lord, worship, and hear the Word. But real life happens in between, requiring hands-on learning that just can’t be done on a corporate level. That’s the purpose of City Groups!

What can I expect when I go?

Each City Group is unique because of the people and the neighborhood it represents. For the most part you can expect encouragement in the Word, times of prayer, possibly worship, certainly lively conversation, and usually some kind of food. Our goal is to build strong relationships that encourage each other to grow in our faith. There will be opportunities for the group to serve the greater mission of the church or help a local neighbor with a need. BBQ’s, camping trips, maybe bowling for a night as well as other activities will be enjoyed together from time to time. When you experience a healthy family environment you can’t help but be changed!
